An innovative rollout concept for a standardized tracking process is usually developed specifically for load carrier management.

Initial situation

All interfaces and system components must be coordinated and defined in order to implement rollouts efficiently and cost-effectively in plants around the world. For this purpose, an internal shared service is often set up in the central IT department in order to establish comparable and stable functions, processes and solutions in all RFID applications worldwide.

Solution

A central IT architecture is set up and used by the individual plants, which very quickly creates a positive business case through economies of scale. Intelligent RFID systems not only support the secure recording of load carriers, but also determine the route and direction of movement of the objects at the loading gates or as a mobile reading point in industrial trucks. The automotive manufacturer uses the "CrossTalk" product as the Group-wide IT standard for load carrier management and generally as AutoID device management in logistics. The supplier or external partner can also use the load carrier management application to gain direct insight into the car manufacturer's relevant container stocks and, for example, initiate the replenishment of components more promptly as part of logistics optimization. In return, the car manufacturer has insight into the supplier's container stocks, enabling more efficient use of the load carriers throughout the logistics chain and reducing shrinkage and search times.

Result

The entire CrossTalk-based load carrier management application runs as a shared service in the car manufacturer's data center. The individual, decentralized reading points in the plants are connected via intelligent Kathrein RFID readers with integrated CrossTalk agents. In the load carrier management application, each individual load carrier is automatically assigned a status that provides information about its individual condition. The resulting high level of transparency regarding the number, status and position of the individual load carriers eliminates the need for time-consuming special transports between the plants and the suppliers. In addition, the newly gained visibility can reduce shrinkage and optimize the general number of containers.

Download as PDF

Case Study | Load Carrier Management
