Even if the number of potentially occurring errors is rather small, their subsequent costs can be very high, which makes early detection essential. The car manufacturer is also promoting the use of this technology throughout the entire logistics chain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Initial situation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Whether in plant logistics, production or loading processes - the car manufacturer uses RFID in almost all handling processes on the company premises. The aim of the various RFID applications is to obtain information about vehicle movements in real time in order to make better use of space and resources.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Solution<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The car manufacturer applies RFID technology to the finished vehicles - from the moment they are passed on from production to logistics until they leave the factory. When the vehicles are received by plant logistics, they are provided with their shipping label, which contains an RFID chip. From this point onwards, vehicle movements on the company premises are checked and documented as they pass the RFID reading points. In addition, the vehicles are identified when they are loaded onto the trains and car transporters and when they leave the plant. This is the basic information that is used throughout the entire logistics chain. The required information and status changes of the vehicles can be called up and tracked in the system at any time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Result<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The primary goals of introducing RFID technology were to increase transparency and improve process handling on the company premises. The new AutoID system has led to a reduction in travel distance and time from the handover of the vehicle from production to vehicle logistics to the parking lot on the shipping area, resulting in a remarkable improvement in movement handling. In addition, RFID technology considerably improves the traceability of vehicles. For example, potential loading errors can be detected or even prevented at an early stage.
