To this end, the car manufacturer was looking for an automated and reliable RFID solution. The aim was to track and optimize the development and movement of the prototypes in the development center and on test drives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Initial situation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The aim was to precisely identify the individual components that were installed in the various prototypes during the numerous test drives and procedures. In addition, the car manufacturer wanted to be able to track and analyze the location of each prototype on the factory premises as well as on the test tracks in combination with data from the onboard unit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Solution<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The sports car manufacturer equipped around 200 components and assemblies with EPC UHF RFID tags. An individual identifier, which carries specific information such as serial number and other important details, is assigned to each RFID tag. Once testing is complete, the vehicles drive through an RFID gate where all components are automatically identified and the data generated is forwarded. In addition to the current parts list of a prototype, the RFID system enables the prototypes to be tracked on the factory premises.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Result<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Kathrein RFID solution meets the high expectations of the first-class sports car manufacturer. With the help of RFID technology, it is possible to determine and monitor exactly which components are installed in which prototypes during the tests. This significantly streamlines the manual and time-consuming documentation processes and reduces the risk of errors due to human error. The location of the prototype can be determined in real time.
