The challenge

Short collection cycles and rapidly changing trends: fashion manufacturer Marc O'Polo, based in Stephanskirchen, Upper Bavaria, requires precisely timed textile logistics. Flexibility, customer service and, above all, speed are essential. For optimal processes, the company relies on RFID technology and proven solutions from Kathrein.

Initial situation

Marc O'Polo was founded in Stockholm in 1967 and is now one of the leading international brands in the premium modern casual segment. Initially, the RFID technology was only to be installed in the company's own 2,600 or so stores in order to optimize the availability of goods, checkout processes and merchandise security. In the course of the project planning, however, it was realized that RFID could significantly improve the supply chain as a whole. For this reason, the decision was made to implement the solution comprehensively, including the central warehouse at the company headquarters.

Solution

"Radio Frequency Identification" - RFID for short - enables Marc O'Polo to track each individual product contactlessly along the entire supply chain using electromagnetic waves. In order to track an item from the factory to the store, it is assigned an individual RFID label when it is delivered from the factory. The central warehouse is equipped with an entrance gate that automatically records all RFID tags in a delivery. This makes it immediately clear whether the information on the delivery bill is correct. In the store, RFID enables an exact overview of the stock at all times and a quick payment process. In addition, the system even detects attempted theft based on various parameters.

Result

RFID has significantly improved the supply chain at Marc O'Polo. Inventory and goods movements can be checked easily and with maximum accuracy. This reduces time and personnel expenditure as well as costs. In-store customers benefit from short waiting times at the checkout because purchases are automatically recorded and hard labels no longer need to be removed. The fashion brand's textile logistics have been optimized overall and potential savings realized. The turnover of goods has been accelerated and a separate article surveillance system is no longer necessary. The investment costs are amortized after a few years.
