RFID Proof of Concept

The path to a successful RFID project leads exclusively through a proof of concept (PoC) study

A PoC is crucial for the success of an RFID project. RFID has long been an established and functioning technology, yet it cannot be used or installed "out of the box". It is important to determine the best possible RFID hardware setup from standard components for the respective project case, tailored to the requirements, and to set the optimum parameterization/configuration of these components.

Which RFID transponder type fulfills the project requirements? Both the installation position of the RFID transponder on the tagged object and the hardware setup of the RFID reading point (consisting of RFID antenna and RFID reader as well as their fine parameterization) are determined by means of PoC test series. Only after a successful RFID proof of concept can a project offer be reliably calculated and prepared. Kathrein Solutions accompanies its partners in every project phase if desired and is happy to serve its partners in terms of high project quality.

Test and application center

Our test and application center in Stephanskirchen near Rosenheim offers our partners a wide range of options for carrying out a comprehensive proof of concept under laboratory conditions or simply for a quick & dirty test to obtain a rough feasibility statement about an application.

Simply contact us to define a test concept together in advance. Then send us your test objects and we will take care of the rest. Our test report concludes your project.

At the test center, we have fixed-location applications using our RFID technology that are ready for immediate use with minimal setup. In addition, our PoC kits ensure that we always have all current KATHREIN RFID readers and antennas on site for individual testing purposes. Our two test chambers, which are used in antenna development, offer you—as our partner—the opportunity to perform transponder measurements on your target objects. This allows us to identify the most suitable transponder.

Our feasibility studies can include the following aspects:

Hardware

  • The entire KATHREIN RFID product portfolio
  • Classic gate and dock door applications (detection and/or direction)
  • Static detection points per individual setup
  • Kanban, shelf and test table applications
  • Determination of optimum transponder positions on the detection object
  • Determination of suitable transponder types on the detection object

Software

  • ReaderStart as a simple test and configuration tool (RFID)
  • KATHREIN Apps for Specific Applications
